CloudDJ - Initial Setup With SHOUTcast
Cloud DJ & SHOUTcast
So you’ve ordered your Cloud DJ service from Wavestreaming.com. Great!
Let’s get it set up, then you can walk away while the music plays!
Wavepanel is our all singing all dancing web application to manage your services. You can get to it here: beta.wavepanel.net. We recommend bookmarking this in your browser for quick access.
You will need to refer to your welcome email which you should have received when your services were activated. If you can’t find them check your Junk Mail box, they may be there.
This email will contain all the information you need to set up your services including your Wavepanel Log in information so please keep it safe!
Cloud DJ Settings
On this page, you must completed all information on the left hand pane. This will initialise your Cloud DJ, allow it to connect to your SHOUTcast server and allow you to connect through the Cloud DJ service to stream live.
CDJ Name & FTP
Your Cloud DJ Title is just to label your CDJ in Wavepanel (useful if you have more than one CDJ on your account). The Cloud DJ Password will be used in your FTP client to connect to your server. Music tracks and jingles are uploaded to your Cloud DJ via FTP. The Help & Support guys here recommend using FileZilla.
If your SHOUTcast server is hosted by us and has been ordered on the same account as your Cloud DJ, you can select the Server name from the dropdown box. This will auto-populate the fields below with server information.
If you are with another SHOUTcast hosting company, or your server is not listed in the dropdown box you will need to provide the server details.
The Host field can be an IP address or a hostname.
The Port is the number on the end of your hostname. This will either be four or five digits.
For example –
IP Address: 123.456.78.9
Moving down the page, enter your DJ Password and Server Type.
Your DJ Password is used to connect live to your SHOUTcast server (It will end in ‘_dj’ if your SHOUTcast server is from us).
Your Server Type is the SHOUTcast version of your streaming server (All new Wavestreaming accounts use SHOUTcast V2).
The Stream ID only applies to SHOUTcast Version 2 streams. If you are unsure then set this to 1. The Output Bitrate is the quality of the stream. This must not exceed the allowed bitrate of your stream, or you may get disconnected! (Most Wavestreaming packages come with 128Kbps maximum bitrate. Check your welcome email or open a ticket and ask our support team.)
The Stream Title and Station URL are relayed to SHOUTcast and will appear in your listeners preferred audio player e.g. EPIC RADIO – www.epicradio.uk. (The Station URL should either link to your website, or a social media page to engage listener interaction.)
The Genre is the type of content your station broadcasts. This will ensure the SHOUTcast Directory listings are correct.
Cloud DJ Modes
Cloud DJ can work in 3 modes:
- Shuffle Mode: Plays all uploaded tracks in a shuffled sequence.
- Playlist Mode: Plays a default playlist. (Playlists can be set up using the Playlist Tab.)
- Schedule Mode: Allows you to create a complete radio schedule. Using a calendar view you can add your playlists in 15 minute intervals.
There is a more detailed post about the different playout modes which you can find here.
Once the settings have been populated, click Modify. Your Cloud DJ has now been initialised. Let the track uploading commence!
